Enchanting
How to find recipes, use the enchanting table, and manage enchantment slots.
Vanilla Squared replaces the random enchanting table with a recipe-based system. You choose the enchantment you want, supply its materials, and pay the listed level cost.
Learning recipes
Enchanting Recipe Books can be found anywhere enchanted books would normally appear, including structure chests, fishing, piglin bartering, and librarian trades. The available recipes are structure/village biome variant dependent.
Right-click the enchanting recipe book to learn it. The book is consumed and the recipe is permanently added to your recipe book. Using a recipe book you already know does nothing.
Using the enchanting table
- Open an enchanting table and place the item you want to enchant in the left slot.
- Open the recipe book and select a learned enchantment. This fills the lapis and 4 ingredient slots when you have the required items.
- Place the required (chiseled) bookshelves near the table. The enchanting table detects blocks in a 2 block range from the center.
- Check the level and bookshelf counters on the right. Hover over them for exact requirements.
- Click the animated book to apply the enchantment.
The materials and experience levels are consumed, while the enchanted item stays in the input slot. Applying the same enchantment again upgrades it by one level, with higher levels usually costing more.
Recipes still respect maximum levels and incompatible enchantments.
Enchantment slots
Enchantable items have a limited number of slots split into categories. Each enchantment occupies one slot in its category, regardless of its level. Slot types and capacities depend on the item, and loot can have randomized capacities. If the required category is full or missing, that enchantment cannot be applied.
Hover over an item to see its slot usage. Hold Left Alt, then use the arrow keys or scroll wheel to inspect each category.
Special enchantments
Special enchantments are active abilities rather than passive bonuses. Hold the item in your main hand and press the Enchantment Hotkey to use its ability. The default key is Left Alt which can be changed in Controls.
Special abilities have a cooldown shown above the hotbar. Only one special enchantment fits on standard weapons. Read the Dash and Swirling pages for their exact effects.
